The “Right” Morning Calories Count! We’ve all heard it before;
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”
Even so, only a third of us actually make time for it. We come up with all kinds of excuses like “I don’t have time”, I’m not hungry”, “and I’m trying to lose weight”. Unfortunately, skipping breakfast will sap your energy and you’ll end up starving later in the day and overeating, and it usually ends up be fatty snacks from the office vending machine! Make yourself get up just a few minutes early and eat a healthy breakfast, even if it’s just a small bowl of fiber filled cereal with skim milk and some fruit. Making time for breakfast not only boosts your energy, it also revs up your metabolism, which encourages weight loss, and you’ll end up burning more calories then the breakfast puts on!
You’ll want to keep in mind that the benefits of a hearty breakfast will vary based on what you actually eat and how much physical activity you get during the day. What I’m saying is that you don’t want to jump up in the morning and grab a toaster pastry and a cup of coffee loaded with sugar and race out the door. This will have the opposite effect and you’ll crash and burn after the caffeine and sugar wears off.
Breakfast should include fruit as often as possible.
Make time for a piece of whole wheat toast and have it along with a slice of cheese and some fruit. Oatmeal is also a great choice and tasty with some blackberries or blueberries tossed in and a dash of cinnamon. Fruit is a great source of antioxidants and vitamins, and can help jump start your body with a minimal amount of calories. Strawberries and bananas mix together perfectly as well, and making a smoothie with them for breakfast is a real treat. If you find yourself short on time in the morning, just keep some grab n’ go foods handy like walnuts, roasted soybeans, granola bar, some dried fruit or meal replacement.
If you’re concerned about calories try a few tricks to cut down like just eat the whites off your eggs, having whole wheat toast with a butter substitute and a bit of peanut butter, drink your coffee at home instead of buying sugar laden cups on the go. There are a lot of ways you can make time for, and enjoy your breakfast, fill yourself up, and be ready for the day without gorging on calories, sugars and fats.
Making time for breakfast in the morning gives you the opportunity to pre-fuel yourself for later on in the day so don’t cheat yourself.
