Today, I’m featuring our February Top Level Fitness Member of the Month…

Heather Johnson

Heather it’s one of the most motivated people I have work with. She is one of the early birds who workout at 5.30 am and she always givesphoto 110% of her self. Not only she made great transformation for the past year that she has been with Top Level and she looks amazing, she is a great motivator and leader. She proved that being captain on the Green Team during the 6 Weeks Challenge. If not first, she was in the top 5 for all the challenges and she made sure she keeps her team motivated and engaged during the challenge. She always has her happy face and she is always ready for another challenge. She is a huge proponent of Top Level and she proved that through referring our services to her friends.

1. What do you do for a profession outside of Top Level Fitness?

Currently, I stay at home with my children.

2. How long have you been a member of Top Level Fitness?

I have been a member for 15 months.

3. How did you get involved in Top Level Fitness?

I purchased a Groupon.

4. Tell us about your sports and fitness background?

I was never really an athlete. I played softball for fun for a few years in my 20s on a local woman’s recreation team. In terms of fitness, I was a member of Bally’s when I lived in the city. I would attend classes, use the elliptical and treadmill, and periodically use the machines. I’ve run several 5K races, a couple 8K and a 10K, and have recently gotten interested in the obstacle course races.

5. Take us back to your first workout… what was it, and how did it feel?

At TLF, I don’t exactly remember the workout itself, but I do remember that there was a challenge that day, to complete 100 burpees within the class, in addition to the regular workout. When class was over, I still have maybe 15 burpees to go, so I didn’t leave until I had finished my 100! 🙂 I remember feeling great about the workout. I think I knew right from Day 1 that the TLF workouts were just the kind of thing I was looking for.

6. What is your favorite/least favorite workout exercise?

I usually favor anything we do on the TRX. Also, maybe because of that very first day (see above), but one of my favorite exercises is probably burpees, or anything ab related. I also love new core exercises that challenge my balance! My least favorite exercise is probably the jump squat. Not quite sure why, but I really don’t like those things! Not a real fan of the ropes either, but they are a good challenge!

7. What is your strongest attribute or favorite workout?

My favorite workout is definitely Tabata! There’s something about doing short 20 second bursts that I really enjoy. I also love Sean’s core circuit on Fridays!!

8. When did you realize that Top Level Fitness was right for you?

I really did know that I had found the right gym for me that first week I attended. I love the personal training within a group setting. I also love that the workouts can be tailored to any fitness level. The workouts are challenging enough for the veteran member, yet can be modified for the beginner.

9. What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting Top Level Fitness (before/after)?

I have definitely become a stronger person since joining TLF! I am able to lift heavier weights and do more reps. My cardio abilities have also improved, which will help with my running pace. I can’t even believe the changes I’ve seen in my body! Never did I ever believe that I would be as toned as I have become lately. I can see ab muscles!! Who knew they were hiding in there! 🙂 For the first time, I look in the mirror and am rather proud of how I look. I believe I look better now than I ever did before I had children!

10. What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like Top Level Fitness that were totally unexpected?

As I mentioned above, just the changes in the look of my body are more than I believed could be possible. I find myself wanting to be more active in my free time. I always ran 5Ks, but am now enjoying the obstacle races because they are more challenging than just running a straight race. I can also see a change in my son (5 years old). If I’m doing a workout at home, he will often join in for part of it. He also wants to start running with me this spring, so not only have I made changes, but it’s positively affecting my family.

11. What is your favorite healthy food & “cheat” food?

One of my favorite healthy foods is a veggie omelet. A friend of mine just pointed out that she has omelets for lunch sometimes, so I have started doing that some days. I also love veggies and hummus or apples and almond butter for snacks.

There are so many yummy cheat foods!! I guess if I had to pick just one, I would say pizza. I could seriously eat pizza every day! However, then there’s also Mexican, pasta, most any appetizer…the list could really go on and on! All in moderation, though, right? 🙂

12. Do you have any advice for people just getting started at Top Level Fitness?

Hard work and dedication really do pay off! I will be honest that the scale didn’t change much for me in the first year at TLF, but I did get stronger in that time and my clothes were fitting much better. At the start of 2013, I decided that it was time to lose that final 10-15lbs once and for all. I joined the TLF challenge and with focus, determination, and a little competitive spark, I have almost met my goal in less than 2 months! So, it’s not easy (especially at first), but Zack and Sean really do provide an amazing workout everyday. With that and a good nutrition plan, big things really can happen!
